VISA stands for Visa International Service Association; while visa refers to a multinational credit card corporation from San Francisco. Indeed, a visa credit card has the largest electronic retail payment network around the globe.
It manages payments from various customers such as merchants, businesses, governments, financial institutions, and most especially, consumers. In 2006, 48% of the debit card market and 44% of the credit card market respectively are captured by visa.
In 1970’s, visa was known as “Bank Americard.” The particular card began in 1958; the time that Bank of America produced 60,000 unwanted credit cards. Yet, it is still actual working credit cards. It became a big success at that time.
Then, credit cards were not definitely new. Americans just have credit accounts with various retailers. Visa aims to be an efficient company as it was supported by Bank of America. In 1959, retailers have already welcomed 20,000 retailers.
Bank of America has too much faith in the integrity of American consumers. A small percentage of the accounts went aberrant, and there are many frauds recorded at that time.
All the damages of Bank of America, which include contemptuous media reports, totaled to 20 million. The good thing is in 1960s, damages had been already washed up; credit cards became part of the culture.
Finally in 1974, IBANCO, which is a multinational corporation, was founded to direct the international BankAmerica credit plan.
